Change New Zealand's Flag!?

BRACE YOURSELF! POLITICAL RANT COMING HARD AND FAST!

So our esteemed leader, Prime Minister John Key seems very motivated to change New Zealand's flag. Despite only 28%* of people polled wanting a change and only 2% of people polled considering changing the flag an election year issue.

OK, so this was a fun 5 minute time filler a couple of months ago, but this is really beginning to get on my proverbial! Are we really going to change the flag!?

Is everything in New Zealand so good, so well funded and performing beyond global expectations? They are! Oh wonderful, then go ahead and spend the tens of millions of dollars it'll cost to change our flag.

If our health, education, social services, police, national infrastructure etc. are not up to scratch (which they are not) then get back to work Mr. Key and the rest of our elected representatives, and do the job you're paid to do. In case you don't know what you're paid to do, it's to strive to achieve the best possible quality of life for ALL of your constituents. You achieve this through common sense policies, hard work, team work (not bickering!), adopting and adapting systems from countries that have what we want, dump things that aren't working (Novopay, NCEA), financial prudence and fiscal responsibility (not wasting millions changing the flag!) and striving to be the best and a model of success the rest of the world envies. This is your job!

Work together for the common good, not as individuals for your political and/or personal/commercial agendas.

Perhaps Mr. Key is concerned that he will go down in the annals of time as yet another New Zealand leader who was stunningly mediocre at best, and really did fail to achieve any real positive change, for the good of all New Zealanders, for generations to come. And so, has decided to try and enter the history books as the Prime Minister who changed the flag. Just a thought!

Stop it Mr. Key! End this waste of time, money, resources, energy now! If/when New Zealand becomes a republic, then we will need a new flag. Until then there are far far more important issues that need sorted!
